Skylight by David Hare
Presented by Verendus Theatrical with the support of Red Phoenix Theatre & Holden Street Theatres
In March 2020 SKYLIGHT was only one week away from opening night before COVID-19 turned out the lights.
Now with the support of Red Phoenix Theatre & Holden Street Theatres audiences will finally have the opportunity to see David Hare’s outstanding 1996 Laurence Olivier Award winning Play of the Year
Skylight premiered in the Cottesloe at the Royal National Theatre in 1995, transferred to Broadway in 1996, It was revived in London’s West End in 2014 and again transferred back to Broadway for another highly successful season in 2016. Adelaide audiences have only ever been treated a brief season of Melbourne Theatre Company’s touring production in 1996.
The New York Times, 2015
A transfixing and heart-piercing revival of David Hare’s Skylight. Kyra Hollis and Tom Sergeant have none of the things in common that usually make for a fine romance.
In age, attitude and they’re separated by a forbidding gulf. And don’t get them started on politics, or economics, or even cooking. Yet as you watch them move magnetically toward and away from each other in this exquisitely balanced production, you can’t help thinking that on some profound level these two were made to be together.
And therein lies the tragedy.
This tremendous play will make you shake your head, laugh and smile as you recognise life as we know it, love it and impossibly try to avoid it.
Skylight explodes into another great story which demonstrates why David Hare is considered one of the UK’s greatest living playwrights and a national treasure.
Directed by Tim Williams and featuring a wonderful cast including Jackson Barnard, Brant Eustice , and Alicia Zorkovic.
