Roger likes to think he is the King of his domain; then during a harmless stroll through a department store he meets Hank, a virtuoso BBQ salesman. Hank unscrupulously persuades Roger to 'make the best purchase' he will ever make and buy the world's greatest grill, the 'King' grill. Roger's life is turned into a tumultuous grab for the remains of his charred manhood and burnt marriage; a hilarious modern day roast of the importance of status and power in everyday life.
How do you convince a man to buy something he doesn't need?
Remind him what it means to be a man.
Red Phoenix Theatre makes it’s Fringe debut with Texas-born Adelaidean, Jimmy Lyons. Lyons' play 'Alter Ego' received brilliant reviews in the 2013 Adelaide Fringe and enjoyed a long sold-out run in Los Angeles & New York.
Directed by Adrian Barnes
Written by Jimmy Lyons
Starring Michael Eustice, Sharon Malujlo, and Nigel Tripodi
Red Phoenix Theatre
Red Phoenix Theatre is Holden Street Theatres' resident company and is known as Adelaide's 'premiere' theatre company as they are dedicated to producing only plays which have not previously been performed in Adelaide. Now in their third year, Red Phoenix Theatre has already staged 10 productions. Red Phoenix has consistently received critical acclaim and their work has received multiple awards.
Artistic Director, Michael Eustice, says: "During the last four years we have embarked on a theatrically themed voyage, exploring the things we're told we should never discuss in polite community: politics, religion, money, and sex. We impeached politics in 2017, we excommunicated religion in 2018, exposed money in 2019, and now we invite you to join us for sex in 2020."
