Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award 2021 Criteria
In 2021 the Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award will be a little bit different. International touring is unlikely to be on the cards for the 2022 Adelaide Fringe, instead the award winner will be the headliner of our HST on Screen program a new initiative that will bring theatre from around the globe to the HST Fringe. The winner will be screened nightly in comfort with luxurious lounges, high-tech screens and a selection of world class drinks and snacks.

Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award
The Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award is Back!
In 2021 Holden Street will once again be awarding its coveted fringe award to an outstanding work, or works, giving it the opportunity to showcase at the Adelaide Fringe in 2022.
This is the only award of its kind in the world to tour work from Edinburgh to Adelaide, or in fact Australia and in the past thirteen years we have toured over 70 productions including award winners and many of the runner up shows, with winners such as ‘Sh!t Theatre Drink Rum With Expats’, ‘Build a Rocket’, ‘Bound’, ‘Angel by Henry Naylor’ and the incomparable ‘Flesh and Bone’. We have received over 80 awards for our Fringe program from industry and media, and our audiences have remained loyal. In Adelaide Fringe 2021 (Feb/Mar), patrons wanted to be at the venue and experience the atmosphere of the hub, not watch theatre online at home. However, with international touring brought to a halt we cannot get the shows across the ocean to our shores, so this year instead of a live tour, the Ed Fringe Award winner will headline our HST On Screen program.
The shows in the HST On Screen program will be presented in high dig format, and audiences will experience them in the comfort of a swish lounge room where they can also enjoy luscious wine and cheeses from our bar and café. This intimate cinema will house ten guests who can enjoy an evening of great international theatre and entertainment, then walk outside and see more amazing local theatre in our award winning venues. The shows will be screened in multiple time slots across the Fringe season and the Holden Street EdFringe Award winner will headline this program.
We have been watching shows throughout the month however artists can send us links directly as well. Due to international time differences live stream only shows may not have been possible to view.
The criteria are the same as they were for the live shows, high artistic merit and suitable for our audiences, and this year they will need to ensure they have a strong recording of their show too. A fee is offered to the artist for the presentation of their work, along with media and publicity support through our venue’s marketing office.
We look forward to getting back to Edinburgh in person but in the meantime, we look forward to seeing great international work once again presented at Holden Street Theatres. Head to our website at http://www.holdenstreettheatres.com/index.php/HST-....

Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award Criteria Beyond the Pandemic
Once borders open back up again and touring is on the table once more we hope to offer our award as we did before the pandemic, while it may not look exactly the same much of the criteria will remain. Below is the general criteria that is followed. We hope to see you touring again soon!
Every year at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Holden Street Theatres select a recipient for the Holden Street Theatres' Edinburgh Fringe Award. The winner receives an invitation, as well as touring support, to perform at Holden Street Theatres in the Adelaide Fringe as the headline act of our program. The company is required to sign a contract supporting this in order to receive the award.
Productions will be selected both through application and from the Edinburgh Fringe Guide by the Holden Street Theatres Awards team.
A Holden Street Theatres’ representative, supported by a selected panel of international producers and arts practitioners, views the productions selected; if needed, the HST representative may contact the production company for further discussion. During this process the contract is discussed and agreed on under a Memorandum of Understanding. Your company is given a very clear outline of the level of support offered and of the facilities at the venue.
We focus on artistic merit, production values, touring possibilities, venue compatibility, marketing, and the production's viability based on the target audience of Holden Street Theatres.
The winner will be announced and an award presented at the Scotsman Award Ceremony in the final week of Edinburgh Fringe. Following this presentation, a meeting is arranged to sign a contract and the process begins!
Productions are advised that any additional support they can offer may assist in the decision process.
In the event the company is unable to accept, the offer of performance may be extended to another production.
The award title can be retained by the winner for further marketing use under agreement with Holden Street Theatres. In the event that more than one production stands out, further awards or offers may be presented.
As a marketplace, the Adelaide Fringe presents different obstacles but is every bit as tough as Edinburgh. This is an incredible experience and a great networking opportunity for you - it is not a holiday in the Australian sunshine. So, please ONLY apply if you are prepared to work as hard as we do on selling your show and making it a successful run - and of course we love to have fun doing it!CRITERIA
